David Moore’s “Pointe Nimbus” conjures a serenely buoyant atmosphere, and marks the first widely shared solo piano music from Bing & Ruth’s ensemble anchor and songwriter. The title sounds like a mythological place: “One day we’ll meet in Pointe Nimbus.” But it also alludes to the graceful tip-toe practices of classical ballet and the divine halos of light seen in religious icons—a beautiful collage of imagery in only two words. Regardless, we don’t need to know where or what “Pointe Nimbus” is to savor the beatific cloudscape Moore has here manifested. Traveling without moving, you can always take refuge in its calm firmament.
