a divine miracle ~ more sister irene records are on the way

It’s an understatement to say the response to Freedom To Spend’s reissue of Sister Irene O’Connor’s Fire of God’s Love has been overwhelming. Who knew that an album made five decades ago in Australia by two nuns inadvertently pushing the boundaries of pop music and studio production to a new psychedelic stratosphere would resonate in such a joyful, meaningful way? Perhaps a higher power had that foresight, but we certainly didn’t – we blasted through our first pressing like a bat out of hell!

By demand, and divine miracle, we have a repress of Fire of God’s Love landing at our Brooklyn offices soon. Not soon enough to arrive at your stoop for the holidays, but we are offering you the opportunity to pre-order the album and have a digital download card printed on card stock and housed in a hand stamped envelope sent from RVNG / Freedom to Spend HQ ahead of the vinyl. Use your address, or your giftee’s address, and domestic orders placed by Monday, 12/15 will receive the envelope with download card just as fast as the USPS can travel. We’ll begin shipping LPs later this month, or as soon as they touch down.

FRKWYS Vol. 18: Extended Field - Horse Lords & Arnold Dreyblatt ~ Out Now!

Extended Field, the FRKWYS collaboration between avant-rock evangelists Horse Lords and minimalist composer Arnold Dreyblatt materializes in this world today.

The seeds of this project were planted nearly a decade ago, with online conversations of mutual admiration initiating a long, winding journey towards an in-person collaboration. A road not without challenges, as is inevitable in any artistic partnership between musicians of different generations, both parties remained patient and open, learning the finer points of one another’s harmonic preferences and fusing them into a single, unified sound.

The result of this convergence of Dreyblatt’s hyper-focused practice and Horse Lords’ contagious energy is a brilliant spectrum of psychoacoustic sound. Both parties stretch their sonic boundaries without sacrificing the primacy of their own musical instincts, creating a soundscape full of shimmering harmonies and ecstatic, erratic rhythms.

Extended Field marks the first FRKWYS release since 2021’s collaboration of Ka Baird and Pekka Airaksinen (rest in power, Pekka). Like its predecessors, it represents the culmination of a true exchange of knowledge from one generation to the next, and of the interpretation and application of this knowledge in unison. For RVNG, this exemplifies the ideal outcome of a FRKWYS collaboration: an intergenerational dialogue transformed into a work unburdened by time.

Horse Lords and Arnold Dreyblatt’s FRKWYS Vol. 18: Extended Field is available now in vinyl and digital editions via the RVNG store, Bandcamp, and all digital platforms.
