While understated, Isik’s music is not simple. The arc of Isik’s music – from the minimal, song-centric writing of in february, to the subtle ornamentation of Moon in Gemini, to a synthesis of both in Motorcycles and Cherry Wind - has always been underpinned by exploration, a keen interest in historical and geographical lore, and lyrical allegory.

This interest is firmly rooted in the time-honored pursuit of mystery. From traveling through the ancient cities of his homeland of Turkey, capturing field recordings to synthesize found sound and music as a simple, symbiotic gesture, and simultaneously approaching his songwriting in a more traditional way, Isik ultimately arrived at Motorcycles and Cherry Wind.

Isik notes that his own voice changed on Motorcycles and Cherry Wind - an emotional, rather than technical, transformation. While writing and recording the album, he simply learned to enjoy a sound from within surfacing beyond. That joy is the cornerstone of Motorcycles and Cherry Wind, a resolutely mysterious work, though his most realized album to date.
