KINDNESS IS COMING ! MY FAVORITE BAND OF 2012 IS COMING TO AMERICA & PLAYING MAKING TIME AND FIXED !

<img src="http://www.igetrvng.com/uploads/393_kindness+2.jpg"
Hello Friends !

So....when I went to SXSW this year I went with one goal in mind. No...it wasn't to see the obnoxious 10 story doritos machine with a built in stage for bands to play. No.....it wasn't to get as many free monster energy drinks as possible and no....I didn't really care about seeing Bruce Springsteen. But...my goal actually was to see a band for once.

I know I know....crazy right !?!?!

Usually I go to SXSW with one goal in mind....to act like a complete maniac for 3 days straight with my friend Sean Agnew...which usually means I see 0 bands. This year was different though.....Sean, sadly for me, didn't go to SXSW this year and I had heard so much about this one band that it changed the way I looked at SXSW and I refocused my goals on actually experiencing some music this year. Well.....not entirely....I really only saw 4 bands but.....that's a record for me.

Anyway....so yeah......I actually went to SXSW wanting to see a band this year (which is kind of insane because SXSW isn't really about music anymore and really is just about trying to brainwash us all into eating doritos and drinking energy drinks and getting our credit scores from free credit score dot com !!! oops...did I say that.)

Well.....WHAT BAND DID THIS TO ME ?!?!?!?!?!?!?

KINDNESS !!! YES !!! KINDNESS !!!

and you know what....I achieved my goal.

Thanks to my friend Carter (SHOUT OUT !) who got me into the Fader Fort right before Kindness hit the stage....I achieved my goal...saw Kindness live and......
IT CHANGED MY FUCKING LIFE !!! TRUTH !

The Kindness performance at the Fader Fort at SXSW was so good that it may have been one of the best live show's I've seen in the past 5 years ! SERIOUSLY.
They were so good that I didn't even notice that they were playing in front of a gnarly giant converse shoe.
When is the last time you saw a 7 piece band with vocals, keyboards, live bass, guitar, live drums, electronic drums and 2 female backup vocalists that sounds like everything that is rad about the past, present and future of music ??? Yeah...i didn't think so.

Believe me....this is something very special.

So....while I was freaking out like a crazy person watching Kindness, telling everyone around me, strangers and friends, that this band was a #GAMECHANGER, I looked over at my friend Carter and told him I would do whatever it takes to get this band to come back to America to play the Making Time 12 Year Anniversary and FIXED.
Well....I did whatever it took....literally....and Kindness are coming to America for 2 shows to play FIXED at Le Poisson Rouge on Thursday May 17th and the Making Time 12 Year Anniversary at Voyeur on Friday May 18th !!!

My goal is achieved but....now I have a new goal...for YOU to see Kindness live ! and let them change the way we all look at music....forever.

If there was ever a #GAMECHANGING night in the year 2012....Thursday May 17th at FIXED and Friday May 18th at the Making Time 12 Year Anniversary will each be one.

Love,
Dave P.

PS....look out for more info in the events section soon but for now there's this.....

the Making Time RADio Project with Julia Holter (live !!!) @ Underground Arts

<img src="http://www.igetrvng.com/uploads/391_rvngnl14_pic004_rick_bahto.jpg"
Dear Philadelphia.....

If you're a regular listener of Making Time RADio on 88.5 XPN you know that I often play music that I like that isn't quite what you would here in the club at Making Time. I know most of you think I just listen to Daft Punk and Erol Alkan and Boys Noize tracks all day but....contrary to popular belief....I actually listen to mellow times music most of the time and if you've hung out at an afterparty with me you know that I always choose to listen to non-dance music in any afterhours party experience.

So....it's great to have an outlet for my interest in non-club / dance music on the RADio but....what about LIVE !?!?!? I can't have Vatican Shadow or The Caretaker play at Making Time at the 1am when you're all freaking out like crazy people, can I ????? Well....in an attempt to create an outlet for all of this non-club/dance music that I love, aka....mellow times music, I am starting a new project to express my love for this music outside of the RADio...in real life and LIVE........

The Making Time RADio Project !!!

For the inaugural installment of The Making Time RADio Project I have a very special guest for the RVNG label who has made what is without question my favorite record of 2012 and who's show at Le Poisson Rouge in New York a month ago was by far one of the best live shows I've seen in the past 5 years......

Julia Holter !

YES !!! Julia Holter's record...EKSTASIS on RVNG Intl is without question my favorite record of the year thus far and her live show in at Le Poisson Rouge in NY just a month ago was honestly one of the best shows I've seen in the past 5 years.....no bullshit !!! And Sean Agnew even got to order a plate of hummus while we watched the show together from a table in the front row which made it even more special !!!

So Philadelphia....now is your chance to experience the radness of Julia Holter LIVE !!! at this very first edition of...The Making Time RADio Project on Tuesday April 17th at one of the raddest new spaces in Philadelphia....Underground Arts !
This is truly going to be a very magical night.

<img src="http://www.igetrvng.com/uploads/387_atx_jh_040112_eflyer.jpg"
The video for Julia Holter's "Moni Mon Amie" from her recent Ekstasis album release was directed by Yelena Zhelezov. In Zhelezov's words, "The video for 'Moni Mon Amie' interprets the song as a lyrical appeal to the unattainable other, and a conversation that's being had with oneself. The longing transforms the perception of the everyday, turning each moment into a poetic landscape in which the miniature and the gigantic become interchangeable. Julia plays the subject and the object of desire in this video." View the video for "Moni Mon Amie" just below:

Blues Control & Laraaji Live Debut - Wednesday March 28th at Roulette - Brooklyn, NY

<img src="http://www.igetrvng.com/uploads/385_roulette_bc_laraaji_03282012.jpg"
Last year's FRKWYS Vol. 8 collaboration featuring Blues Control & Laraaji on RVNG Intl. will be realized for the first time in a live setting on Wednesday March 28th at Roulette in Downtown Brooklyn. Stimulating the outermost ear ethers and innermost listener depths upon its November 2011 release, the music of the FRKWYS Vol. 8 represents a single day of studio work and higher conscious connection among Russ Waterhouse and Lea Cho of Blues Control and Laraaji, with musical accompaniment by Arji Cakouros. John Mulvey of Uncut declared, "the psychedelic grace and euphoria of the Blues Control / Laraaji album really hits home: a late personal favourite of 2011."

Roulette's beautiful theater on Atlantic Ave. in Downtown Brooklyn will provide a perfectly serene setting for the live debut of the Blues Control / Laraaji collaboration. The trio, alongside Cakourous, will perform two unfiltered 45 minute pieces inspired by the work of FRKWYS Vol. 8 and whatever universal voices beckon / inspire. The March 28th performance precedes a month long European tour coming together for the quartet later this spring.

In celebration of next week's occasion, we're streaming a second track from the FRKWYS Vol. 8 album to support the promotional effort. Listen to and embed "Freeflow" below. For more information on the collaboration, go here. Hope to see you at next week's event.

But then.....whenever I have to go on Google to find a cafe that serves Intelligentsia coffee in Miami, or find directions to Jeremy Scott's House in Palm Springs to go to his Coachella afterparty or basically do anything Internet related at all on my Blackberry.....well.....It takes fucking forever !!! So....I just ask someone with an iPhone to do it.
C'mon Diplo....I know you can't say it but you know it's true ! So.....Then of course that person with the iPhone turns to me and asks....why don't you just get an iPhone and I always explain how I need that full keypad and blah blah blah and then conclude with.....The way I look at it Blackberry = Business and iPhone = Pleasure. Ya know ???
